Hardwiring Your Brain for Happiness

We are hardwired to be negative!  Do you believe that statement?  I am investigating the ways in which I have a sort of knee-jerk response to whatever comes my way.  I have embraced a self-development course that I call “Merciless Self Awareness.”  What I have discovered about myself fits all that I read regarding our reptilian brain.   That is the part of the brain where we are thick-skinned and cold blooded in our effort to survive.  Survival requires vigilance, alert suspicion, and high stress to avert possible predators.   Just like reptiles, we want the habits of comfort and predictability.   And, just like reptiles, our brains are hardwired to fight, flight, freeze, or die. My life is all about learning.   One of my top five Strengths is “learner.”   These last few months, I have studied “deep diving” as it pertains to business. Richard Horwath’s book, Deep Dive, is all about strategy, focus, and smart action.  Any business looking to make a profit needs leadership that knows how to do strategic thinking, take aim, and know when to act. December 2013 Reading List–ENJOY!

December 2013 Reading List, for those of you who asked me to list the books we are enjoying these days.  We read a portion of each of these during the week.  Our early morning routine allows time to read .    We take turns reading to each other before our morning meditation.   This is one of the best practices we have in our marriage.  I am so glad Paul likes it, too.  The following are the stack of books we choose from every day.  We read a paragraph or a section, marking the place for next time.
